Harvard’s HBX CORe answers our 5 burning questions

We recently spoke with Ross Pearo, Director of Marketing and CORe Product at HBX, to get the inside scoop on Harvard’s exciting new venture into the world of online learning. His main message? Don’t be afraid to apply. It takes less than 30 minutes, and HBX is happy to admit as many people as are a good fit for the program. “Our goal is to allow anybody we think can benefit from the program to go through it and participate in what can be a transformational experience,” he said.

HBX’s Credential of Readiness (CORe) program consists of three online classes designed by Harvard Business School professors to educate all students—regardless of prior knowledge—in the foundations of business. It’s geared toward college students and recent graduates preparing for business careers or business school.

Q&A with former full-time MOOC student Ankit Khandelwal



Ankit Khandelwal is a true MOOC enthusiast. After graduating with a degree in chemical engineering, he realized he wanted to work in global business, but traditional business school was too expensive and offered no guarantee of getting him where he wanted to be. Instead, Ankit dedicated himself to MOOCs full time for two years, following a self-designed course plan he called “Envisioning the 21st Century Global Manager.” It spanned more than 10 universities and providers and covered topics from trade negotiation to foreign languages. Now, Ankit is writing a book about his experience, while also researching and promoting the online learning industry. He recently spoke to CourseTalk about the value of MOOCs, where he sees online education going and how he uses CourseTalk to enhance his learning experience.

An interview with Coursera professor Michael Goldberg

On June 11th, Professor Michael Goldberg moderated his final weekly live panel discussion of his MOOC from the Ancient Agora in Athens, Greece. Over the past 6 weeks, over 20,000 students from 182 different countries have tuned in to the documentary-style videos of “Beyond Silicon Valley: Growing Entrepreneurship in Transitioning Economies” produced by Goldberg and Case Western Reserve University. Now, participants from Greece, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, and Spain will have the opportunity to meet Professor Goldberg in person as he travels to host post-MOOC seminars throughout Europe.
